Suleiman, Hariri to Start Foreign Tours Next Week, Most Prominently to Moscow, Washington
President Michel Suleiman will head to Cyprus on February 12 for talks with his counterpart Demetris Christofias and top Cypriot officials on developments in the region and bilateral ties in light of Lebanon assuming its responsibility as a non-permanent member state in the U.N. Security Council.
The Central News Agency quoted ministerial sources as saying that "the official delegation (accompanying Suleiman) will raise the issue of exploratory drilling for gas in the Lebanese waters and the means of relaunching the process of demarking the regional maritime borders of the concerned countries, among them Lebanon, Cyprus, and Syria."
The president will also visit Moscow on February 24 upon a previous invitation from Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. Suleiman and the official delegation are expected to hold talks with the Russian officials on bilateral ties and regional and international developments.
Sources revealed to the Central News Agency that Suleiman's visit to Russia will be followed by a similar visit by PM Saad Hariri, knowing that the latter intends to visit the Vatican in the second half of February for talks with Pope Benedict XVI.
Hariri is also expected to visit Washington later on to meet with a number of U.S. officials.
