Special Assembly for the Middle East of the Synod of Bishops

As announced by the Pope Benedict XVI the topic for the Special Assembly for the Middle East of the Synod of Bishops which will take place from 10 to 24 October 2010 at the Vatican is: "The Catholic Church in the Middle East: Communion and Witness. 'Now the company of those who believed were of one heart and soul'" (Acts 4:32).

As specified in the Lineamenta  the aim of this Special Assembly is:

• To rediscover the Word of God in the Holy Scriptures and to examine and testify  the ways in which it addresses us today
• To reveal the interest of the Universal Church in the other Churches in the Middle East
• To deepen and strengthen the communion among the Churches in the Middle East through the Word of God
• To identify the role and mission of the Christian Churches in the Middle East

In order to address the above issues meaningfully and thoroughly a number of questions have been devised and intended for the general public. The Maronite Archeparchy of Cyprus presents below the whole text prepared by the relevant committee in charge including these questions and kindly asks everyone to answer any of the questions which directly concerns him/her or is of particular interest to him/her. All the parishes, ecclesiastical and social gruops and movements are also encouraged to respond to the questions which follow each chapter in the document and send their answers to the Secretariat of the Maronite Archeparchy of Cyprus by 24/3/2010.
